Our Society.....

Aberystwyth Labour Students meets each week from 7.30pm in the Schollors Public House in Aberystwyth! Any members or indeed potential members can join us! Below is our society constitution:

Aim of Society:
To provide a society for Labour Party Members, party supporters and their friends which actively promotes student politics and raises the profile of the Labour movement in Ceredigion. Aberystwyth Labour Students also aims to promote and provide a vibrant and active social society which supports its members and offers opportunities to participate in national Labour events and events of interest to members.

Membership:
Membership is £3 for the society or the minimum stipulated by the Aberystwyth Guild of students. All paid members have the right to elect committee members and attend weekly meetings and socials.
All paid members have a vote on constitutional issues and/or any issue that is voted on at committee meetings. No paid member may be forcibly removed from the party, any official ALS social networking group or the e-mailing list.

Committee elections:
Any paid member of the society may stand and vote for positions on the committee.
The following roles must be filled for a legitimate functioning society.

Chair
Treasurer
Secretary

Elections for the next year’s committee must be taken 3 weeks before the summer break. This is to ensure smooth transition. Committee elections can also be taken if a vote of confidence is lost by a sitting committee member. Votes of confidence/no confidence can be proposed by three or more paid members.

Committee elections are explained further in the electoral document. Roles of the committee members can be found under each heading in the 'Our Executive' section.

Society Conduct:
Aber Labour Students is not an exclusive society. We welcome people from all political backgrounds and appreciate the contributions made with good intention by all members.
Aber Labour Students has a no tolerance stance on any discrimination on the grounds of: race, age, gender, language, nationality, culture and sexuality. An Aber Labour student also aims to treat those whose opinions are divergent from their own, whether paid members or non members with respect.

Our Commitment to the Guild Lingual Policy*:
Aber Labour Students is committed to supporting the Guild policy on language and will endeavor to send all official society e-mails in Welsh and English. We shall also adhere to bi-lingual policy in all the campaign materials which we produce ourselves.

*This policy does not apply to social networking sites, Wedsites or weekly meetings due to financial and practical restraints.
